Improving Your Child's Eating Habits

Your kids observe everything you do, including watching what you eat. If you eat a lot of junk, they will follow your footsteps. The same is true if you eat healthy. That's why it's important to be a good healthy role model so that you can help your kids health.
You can do that by stocking your pantry and refrigerator with healthy food choices like vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Then, when they grab for a snack, there are only good options.
If you're changing your family's eating habits, it may be difficult for the child and they will probably resist at first. This is especially true if they are used to eating only sugary or fattening foods.
In this case, make changes slowly and gradually incorporate new foods into their diet. Encourage them to try new things. Continue to give them some of the foods they know and love, but start adding more healthy foods too. Slowly phase out the bad foods.
One way to get them involved is to have them help you with grocery shopping and cooking. This will teach them many life lessons. Kids that understand how to shop and prepare food are more likely to make wise food choices later in life. Even take them to healthy food stores that provide free samples. Let them taste organic apples, grapes and vegetables. Maybe they'll see other kids tasting those foods too and that may get them interested.
As a family, give your family jobs in the kitchen. For example, the boys can wash the foods while the girls mix the ingredients together.
If children see healthy habits in their parents they are more likely to adopt those habits now and as adults. Be a good role model to help your kids health and start eating healthy now. The easiest way to change your child's bad habits is to first change your own.
