Staying Healthy: Use Good Habits - 2

You may not think that your habits affect your health, but they do. All the causes of death from cancers, strokes, heart diseases, injuries and lung disease can be prevented by making healthy lifestyle choices and developing healthy habits.
What Habits Destroy a Healthy Lifestyle?
Using tobacco products and smoking are very dangerous habits. Almost 440,000 deaths in the United States every year are a direct cause of smoking. Emphysema, mouth cancer as well as throat and lung cancer plus heart disease are caused by tobacco. Advertisements will tell you the sooner you quit the better off you will be and the more years you add to your life.
Drinking alcohol can affect your health. Keep your drinking habits to only one-two drinks per day for men and one for women. These are the amounts suggested by the American Medical Society. One drink equals to only 12 ounces of beer, a 4-ounce glass of wine or 1 ounce of hard liquor. Too much alcohol consumption will damage your liver and cause throat and liver cancers. Alcohol contributes to deaths from car accidents, being out of control when drunk, and not knowing what you are doing when you act out.
How to Stay Healthy
Staying healthy means you need to develop a habit of healthy eating. Heart disease as well as cancers, strokes and diabetes will be averted if you eat from each of the food groups and be wise and logical in your food choices. A habit of eating fast food at every lunch will cause obesity, diabetes, mental disorders, and clogged veins and arteries.
Develop a habit of exercising. Carrying too much weight or being obese increases your risk for high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure and strokes. Certain cancers as well as gallbladder disease and arthritis are just some of the problems that occur with high weight problems. Eat a low fat but high-fiber diet and get into the habit of moving. Thirty minutes a day of exercise is a perfect habit to develop.
Additional Health Habits
If you are addicted to sunbathing or using tanning booths, it is very wise to develop the habit of not staying out in the sun too long or using a tanning booth. Sun exposure is linked to skin cancer and tanning booths cause skin cancers to flare up. Choose a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 to help keep sun away from your skin. You need to wear hats when outside in the afternoon and always use sun block. Enjoy the sun, but make it a habit to be proactive.
Make sure you have your vaccinations and shots up to date. It is a good habit to check with your health care provider and get a tetanus plus diphtheria inoculation every 10 years, a vaccination that protects you against whooping cough and your flu vaccination.
Healthy habits will help you stay healthy longer and provide you with a great lifestyle. It only takes a few habit breaking moves and bringing good habits into your life for you to stay healthy.
